Le Contrat de substitution est une œuvre issue de l’échange d’une œuvre d’art cédée à l’artiste par l’un de ses pairs en échange du contrat lui-même. Cette œuvre est reproduite en annexe du contrat.
La valeur d’échange de celui-ci est indexée sur la valeur de l’œuvre que le pair lui adjuge à la date de la signature respective des contractants. En cas de cession ultérieure du contrat à titre onéreux, la valeur de l’œuvre du pair peut être réévaluée en fonction de son cours sur le marché de l’art.
La cession du contrat à un tiers, à titre gracieux ou onéreux, entraine la signature du tiers lui valant ainsi titre de propriété. Toute cession de l'oeuvre reçu par substitution entraine la cession de l'exemplaire du Contrat de substitution associé.
Toute exposition de l’œuvre du pair – et réciproquement – ne s’effectue qu’en vis-à-vis exprès du Contrat de substitution.

The Substitution Contract is a work created through the exchange of an artwork given to the artist by a peer in return for the contract itself. This artwork is reproduced as an annex to the contract.

The contract’s exchange value is tied to the value the peer assigns to their artwork at the time both parties sign. In the event of a later sale of the contract, the peer’s artwork may be revalued according to its current market price.

Transfer of the contract to a third party—whether free or paid—requires the third party’s signature, thereby granting them ownership. Any subsequent transfer of the artwork obtained by substitution automatically transfers the associated copy of the Substitution Contract.

Exhibition of the peer’s artwork—and vice versa—may occur only explicitly alongside the Substitution Contract.
